Create a tool to engage colleges and universities in sustainability practices.
McKinstry, a full-service design, build, operate and maintain firm, offers a behavior change program as part of its services that help institutions encourage employees (and students) to save energy and cut waste. They approached Brand Cool to build their newest and most challenging higher education program that would need to meet two requirements: to be customizable to a variety of higher education institutions, and to be interactive enough to keep students and administrators involved throughout the semester.
Identify proper methodologies and best practices, straight from the market’s mouth.
To understand current challenges and opportunities within sustainability programs, Brand Cool performed a comprehensive audit of similar programs in market. This included a competitive analysis of other behavioral-based energy conservation companies, in-depth interviews with university personnel and focus groups with McKinstry program managers. The resulting insights set clear requirements for product brainstorming.
Build a fully customized online platform designed for turn-key sustainability.
The unique platform engaged students and administrators by incorporating elements of competition, gamification, progress tracking, and rewards. Plus, it included printed companion materials to help campus leaders implement the program within the brick-and-mortar school environment.
