Mark Toor is a Public Relations & Social Marketing Senior Account Supervisor.
Official Bio:
Mark Toor has nearly 30 years of experience in marketing communications, public relations, project management and account service. Through the years he’s held a variety of positions within the healthcare, digital imaging, training and telecom industries. The common denominator for each of these roles has been solid writing that supports business objectives, regardless of the medium.
Mark has worked with some pretty high-profile clients along the way, including General Motors, Hasbro, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Time Magazine, Walgreens, National Jewish Hospital, Pfizer, Disney and PGA Tour. His professional and capable demeanor is balanced with a healthy sense of humor.
Mark holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Journalism from Utica College (Syracuse University) and a master’s degree in English from the University of Colorado at Denver.
He is a member of the Eastman-Rochester Chorus, and has promised himself that next spring his 1960 VW Beetle will be licensed and on the road—a project that started about 10 years ago.
Unofficial Bio:
Why did you choose this career?
When I was a kid, I’d read everything I could get my hands on: I remember reading Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls when I was 12 or so. (GREAT book, especially for tweens.) And I liked to write too. That influenced my college major. From there, my career took a few interesting twists and turns, but writing has been the common thread.
What’s your favorite food?
The easier question to answer is what I don’t like: Seafood. Bleech.
What’s your favorite book?
To Kill a Mockingbird. Or maybe The Great Gatsby. Or anything by Thomas Hardy. (I just want to prove that my taste turned out to be more sophisticated than Valley of the Dolls.)
What’s your favorite recreational activity?
Mowing the lawn. It’s mindless. And you can make cool patterns.
You think the world would be a better place if:
Kids stayed kids until they’re 18 or so. They grow up too fast.
It would surprise people to know that you:
Grew up on a farm. Because I’m so sophisticated. Just look at my favorite books.
Suddenly blessed with a day off and no limitations of time, space or cash, you would:
A day? Can’t it be a week?
Okay, I’d read a trashy book and mow the lawn.
The web site you think everyone should have in their favorites file:
James Lileks, one of my favorite writers.
